PECS Cafe, a unique initiative fostering inclusivity, has been making headlines as it was recently featured in The New Indian Express. Located within the CSM Tech campus in Patia, Bhubaneswar, PECS Cafe is entirely run by four autistic youths—Tanmay Dalei, Saurav Das, Tanaya Leela Chaudhury, and Reyan Ali—demonstrating that individuals with developmental disabilities can excel when given the right support and opportunities.

Founded by Gargi Bhattacharya of the Zain Foundation Trust, the cafe is more than just a food outlet; it is a movement aimed at breaking stereotypes and promoting workplace inclusivity. By equipping autistic individuals with essential life and professional skills, PECS Cafe is paving the way for a society that recognizes and values neurodiversity.

The cafe operates with a picture-based menu, enabling customers to place orders through images, making communication easier for both the staff and patrons. The offerings include tea, coffee, gupchup, masala mudhi, muffins, sandwiches, and bread-jam—items that require minimal cooking but are prepared and served with dedication and precision.

Operating twice a week at the CSM Tech office and on Sundays at the Zain Foundation office in Baramunda, the cafe is a testament to the importance of an inclusive and accepting society. In celebration of World Autism Day, PECS Cafe introduced a special 'Blue' menu featuring blue-themed snacks, further symbolizing awareness and solidarity with the autism community. Additionally, the trust organized an open mic session where parents of autistic children shared their experiences, fostering greater awareness and community engagement.

CSM Tech, known for its commitment to social responsibility and innovation, has played a crucial role in supporting this initiative. By providing a platform for PECS Cafe, the organization underscores the importance of corporate participation in fostering an inclusive workforce.

The recognition by The New Indian Express not only highlights the success of PECS Cafe but also amplifies the message that inclusivity should be the norm, not the exception. Visitors are encouraged to experience the cafe, support the initiative, and take part in building a more accepting world for individuals with autism and other neurodiverse conditions.

PECS Cafe stands as a beacon of hope, proving that with the right opportunities, every individual, regardless of their abilities, can contribute meaningfully to society.
